Measuring Your Opening

When placing your order for a PVC strip door or PVC strip curtain, indicate your exact door opening dimensions by measuring the opening width and height in inches. Measure the width at the top (where the mounting hardware will be installed) and the height in three locations (left, middle and right). Use the largest measured height as your opening height. Be sure to check for and make a note of any obstructions near the opening that may affect the mounting of your vinyl strip door. Next, choose your mounting method (described below).

In Jamb Mount – Since it mounts inside the jamb to the frame header, it does not take up any wall space. This mounting method can be used in conjunction with another existing door, and is also ideal for openings with close obstructions.

Flat Wall Mount – With this mounting method, the PVC strip door overlaps the opening in width and height. The standard overlap is 6" in height and a minimum of 4" in width. Also called “face of wall” or “surface mount”, this method requires clear, unobstructed wall space around the opening. Common obstructions are lights, switches, vents and drain lines from coils. When considering attachment methods, keep in mind that a flat wall mount strip door will overlap your opening. If you choose a flat wall mount, Stripdoors Online will automatically add an additional 6 inches in height and a minimum of 4 inches in width to your vinyl strip door to cover the face of the opening.
